Creator of the classic 1960s hairdo the Beehive dies at age

Depending how loose your roll was, your hair might come up a bit school-marmish, but you can always pin the sides down or add a hairband like I did in the first photo. Just like the initial bouffant roll, make sure a few of the bobby pins are positioned at the top and the bottom of the little rolled section you've just created.

The late singer's look was inspired by Ronnie Spector's signature beehive and she was rarely seen without her trademark wig. And while the Ronettes music career together may have been short-lived, in what is perhaps testament to the hairstyle's enduring impact, beehives can still be seen bobbing around in the audience by Ronnie, 72, at her concerts today.

You'll be able to recreate this look whether your hair is bobbed or long.

"They called me and they said, ‘Margaret, hairstyling has gone dead, there's nothing exciting,'" Ms. Heldt recalled in a 2014 video interview with Modern Salon.

Margaret Vinci Heldt, who became a hairstyling celebrity after she created the famous beehive hairdo in 1960, has died at age 98.
